Welcome to the Swine Gut Genomic Benchmark (SGBdb): A Global Resource for Advancing Swine Microbiome Research.
Launched to revolutionize swine gut microbiome science, SGBdb stands as the definitive global benchmark database, integrating genomic resources to overcome historical data fragmentation. By curating and standardizing vast datasets across breeds, diets, and geographic regions, this initiative unlocks unprecedented insights into the microbial drivers of swine health, nutrition, and productivity.
SGBdb consolidates data from 78 projects and 738 global studies, delivering a harmonized genomic landscape:
(1)2,648 non-redundant isolate genomes from cultured swine gut microbes, providing foundational references.
(2)Over 50,000 Metagenome-Assembled Genomes (MAGs), including 8,149 high-quality genomes (completeness >90%, contamination <5%) and 2,600 single-amplified genomes (SAGs), capturing uncultured microbial diversity.
(3)A curated reference genome set of 3,724 genomes, with 2,495 (67%) meeting stringent high-quality standards (completeness >90%, contamination <5%) for precise taxonomic and functional analysis.
Empowering Scientific Discovery:
SGBdb provides species-level taxonomic resolution for 3,725 microbial groups and near-complete strain-level representation (16,944 strains). Integrated bioinformatic tools—including pre-built Kraken2/Bracken databases—enable rapid, standardized metagenomic profiling. Researchers can now:
(1)Decode the core microbiome’s roles in digestion, immunity, and disease resilience,
(2)Identify novel targets to address critical challenges: antibiotic resistance, disease outbreaks, and feed efficiency optimization,
(3)Develop data-driven strategies for precision nutrition, microbial interventions, and sustainable swine production.
Freely Accessible & Community-Driven:
SGBdb offers open access to annotated genomes, analysis pipelines, and interactive tutorials. As a living resource, it will expand continuously with new genomes, enhanced annotation layers, and advanced visualization tools. We invite researchers, veterinarians, and industry partners worldwide to leverage SGBdb, contribute data, and collaborate in harnessing the swine gut microbiome to improve animal health and global food security.
